ABOUT:

Marnie White is a multimedia artist who is a graduand of Glasgow School of Art, BA (Hons) Fine Art Painting and Printmaking. Her work explores the interplay of videography, digital imagery, sculptural forms, printmaking, and soundscape composition. Her practice is rooted in her personal and cultural connection to music, shaped by growing up in a sonic environment. Sound, particularly electronic music, has profoundly influenced her work, inspiring themes of movement, rhythm, and layering.
The ‘scratch’ era of the early 1990s plays a key role in her creative process, with its tactile and layered nature informing the way she construct her pieces. Marnie strives to merge the digital with the physical, creating immersive spaces through projections, layered graphics, and sculptural forms. This blending of mediums allows her to bring virtual ideas into reality, bridging her past experiences with the present.
Repetition and symbolism are central to her work, acting as visual echoes of her journey from childhood to adulthood. The recurring motifs used encourage interpretation, inviting viewers to connect their own meanings to the pieces. This process is deeply collaborative, as the viewer becomes part of the artwork by engaging with the layers and symbols.
Soundscapes—whether found or produced—play an essential role in her installations. Paired with visuals, they heighten the immersive experience, allowing her to evoke the emotional and sensory impact of music. Her goal is to create stimulating environments where audiences feel a connection to her work while reflecting on their own relationships with sound and movement.
Through Marnie’s art, She explore the power of music and sound to shape identity and memory, using these elements to craft layered, meaningful, and immersive experiences that resonate both personally and universally.
