Subsymbolic, Glasgow School of Art Degree Show, 2025
Multimedia Installtion
Subsymbolic is a multimedia installation exploring the intertwined themes of childhood, memory, and music.
In psychology and cognitive science, subsymbolic refers to a mode of understanding cognition that emphasises patterns, associations, and relationships rather than explicit symbols or structured rules. I chose this title because it reflects how these intangible forces have shaped my sense of self.
At the heart of the installation is a central figure – my alter ego – placed within a world constructed from fragments of sound and symbolic elements drawn from my childhood. This character acts as a visual anchor, embodying my inner world and the emotional landscape of growing up immersed in music.
Rather than telling a literal story, the work evokes nostalgia and emotional resonance through playful, abstract forms: pops of colour, textured surfaces, rhythmic patterns, and layered audio. These symbols of sound and childhood aren’t meant to be decoded like language but felt – mirroring how the mind processes memory and emotion: through rhythm, sensation, and connection.
Subsymbolic captures that quiet complexity – how meaning can arise not from what is clearly said, but from what is deeply felt.
SYNTHESIS WAVE II | 19/10/26 | SWG3, GLASGOW
In 2024, I co-founded Synthesis with Isla Nicholson, a Glasgow-based project bringing together music and art through exhibitions, live performances and collaborative events.
On 19th October 2026, we hosted Synthesis Wave II at SWG3, bringing together emerging visual artists, musicians, DJs and performers across the Warehouse and Gallery. The event marked the culmination of my year-long SWG3 Graduate Prize residency and brought together my interests in music, visual art and curation.
Music is My Sanctuary
Music is my Sanctuary is a multimedia installation piece which documents my engagement with music and dance from childhood to adulthood. The original narrative of my love of clubbing and music has been transformed into a much more personal journey, using both family-sourced and my own archived footage, sequenced and layered throughout the piece.
FRISSON,A3 SCREEN PRINT WITH VIDEO, NEW GALLERY SOCIETY,GLASGOW
Frisson is a conceptual club and brand which I created to explore current club culture. Frisson is a reminder of that sanctuary where overstimulation’ of the senses can be regarded as a positive experience. The final video piece represents the feeling of euphoria at that specific moment when a beat or rhythm kicks in and pushes you to dance.
